John Lewis fashion sales dive in freezing weather

The freezing weather conditions across the UK last week caused an 18.8% plunge in fashion sales at John Lewis, in the week to 3 March.

However, sales of hats, gloves and scarves saw an uplift of 38% compared with the same week last year. Sales of boots also rose, by 36%.

Total sales for the week were down 14.4% on the same period last year.

John Lewis said its partners across the network “made an incredible effort to support trading after snowy weather across the UK impacted sales and disrupted some operations.”
