The department store retailer said total weekly sales for the second week of its new financial year grew 7% to £74.5m compared with the same week last year.
“Fashion sales were up 2.9% on last year, with the biggest growth coming from women’s accessories and beauty, well-being and leisure,” said John Lewis operations director Dino Rocos. “Unsurprisingly, these are high gifting areas for Valentine’s Day, driven by beauty counters up 4.5% on the year, and handbags up 6.4%.”
