John Lewis fashion sales fall

Fashion sales at John Lewis dipped 0.6% last week, compared with the preceding week, as mild temperatures hit demand for cold weather and outerwear clothing. 

Despite the fall back, John Lewis said longer nights continued to drive sales of nightwear and menswear in the seven days to November 7, but did not provide figures.

Sales across the business as a whole were down 0.4%, but JohnLewis.com saw a 0.8% growth. 

During the week the department store launched its much anticipated Christmas advert, ”Man on the Moon”, which was watched by almost 6 million shoppers in the first 24 hours. 

John Lewis buying director Johnathan Marsh appeared confident for the key shopping period of the year, adding: “With our Man on The Moon Christmas advert successfully launched, branches fully decorated and stocked up with Christmas gifting and our best products ready to sell, we are well set to build momentum in the weeks ahead.”
