John Lewis fashion sales falter as clearance ends

John Lewis sales edged up 3.7% year-on-year to £89.1m for the week to 14 January 2017, but fashion sales fashion sales tailed off following earlier strong trading.

Fashion sales for the week inched down year-on-year, dropping by 0.1%. This follows strong sales in during the week to 7 January 2017, when sales rose 9.2%, as customers snapped up bargains in the Sale. Total fashion sales for the 24 weeks to 14 January are still positive, currently up 4.5%.

This week was the last week of John Lewis’s clearance Sale, which ended on 15 January and this week saw strong sales of ‘Special Buy’ products  electricals, bolstering overall sales for the company.
