John Lewis fashion sales growth slows to 1.9%

A lack of demand for winter clothing last week saw John Lewis’s fashion sales growth slow to 1.9% from a 12.5% increase the week before.

Overall sales at John Lewis in the week to October 18 were up 6.3% year on year, while online sales rose 25.9%.

Maggie Porteous, director of selling, North and new format, said click-and-collect “continued to power ahead”. She added: The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the successful opening of our first John Lewis in a railway station at St Pancras.

“In the heart of this historic building we have opened a truly trailblazing omnichannel shop, which at once found favour with customers both for immediate purchases and for those wanting to click-and-commute.”

She added that John Lewis was “all set” for Christmas trading.
