Fashion sales at John Lewis were up 3% year on year in the week ending November 22, despite the wet and relatively warm weather.
Partywear grew in popularity, with sales of the Kin formalwear tailoring range up 71% year on year.
After passing the £100m mark the previous week, last week John Lewis’s sales rose another 5% to £114.2m - up 2.1% on last year. Online sales were up 13.4% year on year.
Increases in Christmas gift sales signalled the festive season is now front of mind for customers, John Lewis said. Classic gift products performed well, including premium beauty (up 14% year and year) and jewellery and watches (up 8%).
Mark Lewis, online director at John Lewis, said: “It was pleasing to see sales surpass the £100m mark for the second consecutive week.
“Looking ahead to Black Friday, we’re hard at work behind the scenes to ensure that our shops, distribution network and Johnlewis.com are ready to meet increased demand and offer the high levels of customer service our customers expect.”
