John Lewis fashion sales rise

Fashion sales at John Lewis grew 7.3% for the week to 19 August, driven by discounting and the cooler weather.

Womenswear sales were up 14.3% on last year, while menswear climbed by 5%.

John Lewis said this was “mainly due to summer products being marked down”, and a boost in demand for new season warm clothing.

Total sales for the week at the department store were up 5.7% year on year, with the change in weather also prompting improved sales in bedding and lighting.
