John Lewis fashion sales slump

Fashion sales at John Lewis were down 7.8% in the week to 25 February compared with the same period in 2016, when the retailer matched a competitor’s promotion.

Overall sales fell 3.1% to £74.4m. There was a 4.2% slump in sales of homewares, while sales of electricals and home technology rose 2.5%.

”Fashion sales were down 7.8% on the year, as this time last year we were matching a competitor’s promotion,” said online trade director Mark Felix.

”This was particularly apparent in branded fashion. However, our own-brand designer collaborations including Somerset by Alice Temperley and Bruce by Bruce Oldfield were up on the year.”
