Fashion sales edged up 1% for the week to 15 July at John Lewis, with menswear highlighted as a particularly strong performer.
Beauty, wellbeing and leisure posted the most growth in the last week of summer clearance, followed by menswear.
Casual menswear enjoyed the most demand, boosted by the warm weather and customer spending on holidaywear.
Total sales for the week climbed by 4% to £86.4m, compared to last year. Sales in all departments across the chain increased.
