John Lewis fashion sales up 10.6%

Fashion sales at John Lewis rose 10.6% in the week to May 30 as shoppers took advantage of the bank holiday weekend and half term break.

Total sales at the store group during the week were up 3.9% year on year to £82m.

Liz Mihell, head of selling for John Lewis at home, said: “All areas (in fashion) had a strong result with customers clearly making the shift into the new season and getting ready for holidays. The brightest highlights were from women’s accessories with shoes and handbags both performing well ahead of their last-year scores. Swimwear and nightwear continued their great run and all areas of womenswear beat their comparisons.

“Not to be outdone, the menswear teams also made the most of the week with shoes, casualwear and sports making the greatest advances.”
