John Lewis saw sales rise 8.3% to £46.4 million for the week to January 19.
John Lewis has seen sales growth of 4.8% over the 25 weeks to January 19, with shoppers continuing to spend in its department stores despite the doom and gloom fears of a recession.
In total 21 stores surpassed their sales figures for the same week last year when the country was hit by stormy weather. In addition John Lewis Direct, the internet operation, kept pace helped by an increase in sales of clearance goods.
Barry Matheson, head of selling development at John Lewis said that womenswear had put in a "particularly eye-catching result" with sales 12.1% ahead for the week ended January 19. Menswear, leisure and beauty sales were 5.3% for the week while kidswear, toys and crafts were up 5.8%.
