John Lewis gets Christmas boost

Sales at John Lewis this week are up 8.5% on the previous week, and 4.6% up on last year, as cold weather and Christmas gift shopping boost trade.

Sales for the week to November 24 rose 9.8%. Menswear, leisure and beauty sales were up 14.7% and womenswear sales rose 10.9%.

Director of selling operations Dan Knowles said: “The continued cold weather is driving sales of outdoor clothing and customers are really responding to our assortment. With four shopping weeks left before Christmas we are seeing strong sales of festive gifts and other Christmas-related ranges”.
