John Lewis own-brand sales rocket despite fashion decline

John Lewis’s own-label womenswear sales have shot up 14% in the week to 14 April compared with the same period in 2017, despite a 9.2% drop in overall fashion sales.

Own-brands Kin and Modern Rarity were highlighted as particularly strong performers. Sales at Kin rose by 50% year on year during the week, while Modern Rarity grew by 30%.

Cold-weather fashion sales were also up, by 3% on last year.

Total sales for the week at the department store were down 7.1% on last year across all its product categories, which John Lewis attributed to the poor weather and distortion from the earlier timing of Easter promotions this year.
