John Lewis readies for cold snap as sales rise

Fashion continues to deliver a strong set of results for John Lewis, which has reported sales of £99.5m for the week to January 9, up 15.6% year on year.

Sales of clothing increased 15.4% during the period compared with last year, outperforming other categories such as homeware.

Total online sales increased 25.8%, but the department store group did not break down fashion revenue.

David Barford, director of selling at John Lewis said: “As I write this it looks like we are in for a spell of cooler, more seasonal weather, and let’s hope this brings some respite from the rain.”
