John Lewis sales growth continues

John Lewis has reported another strong week ending March 9, with sales up 14.3% on last year.

The department store business noted that Mother’s Day falling earlier in the calender had helped boost overall trading to achieve revenues of £68.2m compared with £59.7m in the same week last year, but noted that “the underlying trend remains extremely positive”.

All branches grew, with Swindon singled out as the best performer, growing 28% on last year. Chester and Milton Keynes were also strong, rising 25% and 22% respectively, with Glasgow also up 22%.  Meanwhile online sales grew 20%.

Fashion grew below the headline rate, however, up 7% - a performance dwarfed by the 33% rise in electricals.

Last night John Lewis picked up Retailer of the Year at the Retail Week awards.
