John Lewis sales jump over Easter

Fashion sales at John Lewis were up 17.7% year on year last week, buoyed by the earlier timing of Easter.

The business said all clothing categories experienced a strong increase in sales for the week to 31 March due to the cold weather driving sales of warm clothing and price matching competitor promotions.

Beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales increased 26.3% compared with the same week last year, while the business had a “record week in the first half of the financial year” for electrical and home technology sales, which were up 32.4%.

Total sales at the retailer were up 24.1% on the same period last year.
