John Lewis sales rise 3.5%

John Lewis saw sales rise 3.5% to £54.4 million for the week ended January 10.

Fashion sales were ahead 5.6% for the week. John Lewis said women’s footwear and men’s outerwear performed strongly. Kidswear was the best performing category, up 11% over the week.

Seven branches of John Lewis recorded sales uplifts. Aberdeen topped the chart with growth of 17%. Newcastle, Glasgow, Southsea, Cambridge and Bluewater in Kent were all ahead.

John Lewis said although sales growth had slowed against the previous week, it was pleased with the performance given the current climate.
