John Lewis starts work on Chelmsford store

John Lewis has started work on its 90,000 sq ft flexible format store in Chelmsford, which is set to open in autumn 2016.

The format was launched in Exeter in 2012 and York last year, and is designed to sit between John Lewis’ full size stores and its ‘at home’ branches, applying an omnichannel approach to offer consumers a mix of fashion, home and consumer electronic products.

It will anchor the second phase of the Bond Street development in Chelmsford city centre, made up of 20 retail units.

The three-floor store will create approximately 350 new jobs.
