John Lewis store sales slow as mail order booms

Sales growth at John Lewis stores slowed last week, up just 0.5% for the week to November 3.

However, mail order sales at John Lewis Direct had their best week of the year half so far, up 52.6%.

Sales of menswear, leisurewear and beauty, which has seen double digit growth in recent weeks, rose just 0.4% over the period.

Womenswear dropped 5.3%, with kidswear, toys and crafts down 2.1%

The company said that mild weather had subdued fashion sales, but that own label womenswear and branded men's casualwear had performed best.
