The Oxford Street Christmas lights switch-on will be launched at John Lewis on November 6.
For the first time, there will be a national talent competition to give a member of the public the chance to perform alongside a host of soon-to-be announced pop stars.
The blanket of lights, made up of 750,000 LED bulbs, will festoon the entire length of the road to mark the 55th annual celebration, which is supported by over 300 Oxford Street retailers.
“For 2014, we certainly won’t disappoint the tens of thousands of visitors arriving from all corners of the globe, with a sensational event that will get shoppers in the spirit for Christmas shopping,” said Jace Tyrrell, deputy chief executive at event organiser New West End Company.
Karen Lord, managing director at John Lewis Oxford Street, said: “We’re really excited to be a part of bringing the Oxford Street Christmas light switch-on to life for shoppers. It is always a momentous occasion and to be hosting the celebrations during our 150th anniversary year adds another great milestone to our Oxford Street history.”
