John Lewis to star in BBC Two show

John Lewis is to be the subject of a new BBC Two show documenting the “pressure cooker” experienced by retailers in the run up to Christmas.

Due to air on Wednesday December 23 at 9.30pm, the one-hour documentary, presented by Cherry Healey, will follow how John Lewis prepares for Christmas from the press launch in July to making the TV ad campaign and preparations for Black Friday.

The programme focuses on the “new breed” of savvy online shoppers and how John Lewis copes with the demand for click-and-collect and home delivery. Healey also follows the opening of the new John Lewis Birmingham store.

Healey said: “Competition is rife and retailers are working even harder to attract customers to their high street stores while at the same time taking on the established online global giants. Despite the months of planning, with each passing day, you can feel the pressure mounting. Logistics teams are moving into overdrive, extra staff are in place and the delivery teams are on perpetual stand-by. The frenzy of Christmas has well and truly begun.”
