John Lewis trading steady

Trading at John Lewis was steady last week with four out of seven days seeing flat sales year-on-year, and a drop of 3.1% overall.

Despite the total drop for the week to May 2, sales at John Lewis’ fashion directive were up 1.6% over the week.

John Lewis in Cambridge led sales increases for the week trading 6.4% up, while sales at the retailer’s Aberdeen store were up 5%, and Peter Jones in London also saw a rise of 0.3%.

Sales at the remanding stores in the retailers 27 store portfolio, excluding new openings, were in negative territory.

Nat Wakely, John Lewis director of selling operations region A, added that trading on Saturday was strong despite the burst of warm weather.
