John Lewis weekly fashion sales jump 20%

Year on year fashion sales were up 20% at department store chain John Lewis last week, as total sales rose 15.5% to £52.5m.

John Lewis head of operational support Chris Hooper attributed the strong performance in clothing to the introduction of new product and “a large number” of new brands.

Hooper also said there had been “significant” footfall in stores, in the seven days to August 7, particularly last Saturday.

Online sales were up 33% and it was a “record week” for click and collect.
