Weekly womenswear sales at John Lewis jumped 21.5% on the same period last year, driven by early demand for outerwear in “mid-week unseasonal weather”.
Menswear also saw sales grow in the week to 12 August, up 8.1% on the previous year.
The department store said its Paul Smith men’s line, which completed its first full week of sales, saw “strong demand”.
Overall fashion sales were up 7.5%, while total sales for the week climbed by 5.9%. John Lewis said sales at all of its departments increased on the same week in 2016.
