John Lewis womenswear sales surge

Womenswear sales at John Lewis, driven by cold weather clothing and price matching competitors offers, boosted the department store’s fashion business last week. 

Womenswear sales rose by 18.2% for the week to 23 September, compared with the same period last year. Total fashion sales grew by 8.6%.

Menswear also saw a double-digit increase, with sales up 13.4%. Women’s accessories meanwhile increased by 8.7%.

Total sales for the week stood at £87.3m, up 6.5% on last year. John Lewis said both shops and online experienced sales growth.
