John Lewis’s Andy Street to stand for West Midlands mayor

The manging director of John Lewis, Andy Street, has confirmed he is interested in running to be mayor of the West Midlands.

The department store group said Street is interested in standing for office but he has not been formally selected by the Conservative Party.

If he is selected as candidate, Street will leave John Lewis.

A spokeswoman for the retailer said: “Should Andy be successful in his application, he has agreed with the chairman that he should step down from his role and a further announcement will be made to confirm the succession plan for the future leadership of the John Lewis brand.”
