Johnstons of Elgin to open London store and showroom

Scottish cashmere and woollen manufacturer Johnstons of Elgin will open a store, office and showroom in London’s West End this November, Drapers understands.

Sources said Johnstons has taken the former Byford unit at 77 New Bond Street, adjacent to premium menswear brand Ermenegildo Zegna and opposite Swiss fashion and sportswear brand Victorinox.

Johnstons already has three stores, two based at its mills in Elgin and Hawick and one in St Andrews. This will be its first outside of Scotland.

The 200-year-old family-owned company’s private-label clients include Burberry, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and E Tautz, while its own brand has 250 stockists in the UK, including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Harrods and roughly 100 independents.

Drapers has contacted Johnstons for a comment.
