Jones and Riva make New Year's honours list

David Jones, the former chairman and chief executive of Next, has been knighted and Hilary Riva, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year's honours list.

Jones stepped down from his role of chairman at Next in 2006 but he remains a highly respected figure in the retail sector. Jones is currently chairman of Shop Direct Group, the company behind Littlewoods, and is also deputy chairman of JJB Sports.

Hilary Riva, the former managing director of Rubicon, was appointed chief executive of the British Fashion Council, which organises London Fashion Week, two years ago. Riva has been credited with generating more support for British designers and with improving the credentials of LFW with her blend of commercial and creative designers.
