Exclusive: Jones/Brantano executive chairman exits

David Riddiford has left his position as executive chairman of Jones Bootmaker and Brantano after both retailers fell into administration last week, Drapers can reveal.

Private equity firm Endless has acquired Jones in a pre-pack, while administrators are continuing to explore whether anyone is interested in buying parts of Brantano.

Riddiford joined the two footwear firms in September following the departure of chief executive David Short. At the time, both retailers were owned by Alteri Investors.

A source close to the situation said Endless was likely to bring in an external candidate to lead Jones: “They will want someone who knows the market and has leadership experience.”

However, a recruitment source said Sarah Davies, chief product officer at Jones, could also be a contender.

Davies joined Jones in June from Arcadia Group, where she was buying director at Dorothy Perkins.

Riddiford was previously global CEO of jewellery company Links of London from September 2011 to December 2012.

He was CEO of Irish department store Arnotts from November 2006 to October 2010 and president of Lane Crawford for two years to 2006.
