Kate Kuba in administration

Bonustrend, which trades as Kate Kuba, the premium women’s footwear chain, has gone into administration.

Fisher Partners is understood to be handling the administration.

Sources told Drapers that owner Cos Constantinou was likely to buy back some of the company’s stores. The actual Kate Kuba brand name is not part of the administration.

The premium footwear chain recently opened a shop in Westfield London, the new shopping centre development in London’s White City. It is unclear how successful the new store has been and sources told Drapers the opening had also affected trade in the chain’s nearby store in London’s Kings Road.

The collapse of Kate Kuba will come as a surprise to the industry. It is a key stockist of sheepskin boot brand Ugg, the popularity of which is known to have rescued autumn and Christmas trading for a number of footwear retailers.

Kate Kuba was in the process of launching a wholesale brand for autumn 09.

Constantinou declined to comment.
