La Martina, an Argentinian premium polo clothing and technical kit label, is to open its first standalone store in London’s St James next month, with the official launch planned for January 2015.
The 2,690 sq ft flagship will be located on the corner of Jermyn Street and Eagle Place and will stock the full range of polo kit, clothing and accessories, including collections for Guards Polo Club and Maserati. Polo shirt prices start at £76.
La Martina, which has approximately 80 stores worldwide, is targeting further expansion in the UK, thanks to a keen interest in polo here, a close relationship with Guards Polo Club in Surrey (founded by HRH Prince Philip) and partnerships with polo teams at universities and colleges such as Oxford and Eton.
“After opening in Guards Polo Club eight years ago, our current strategy is aimed at developing a process to embrace the style and history of traditional English tailoring,” said Enrico Roselli, chief executive of La Martina Europe SA. “St James’s international reputation for high-quality bespoke clothing made our decision to choose the area for our London debut an easy one.”
The brand, which turns 30 next year, has two existing retail outlets in the UK, The Guards Polo Club Store and a franchise on the fifth floor at Harrods, as well as around 45 wholesale stockists.
