French brand Lacoste has bought a majority stake in Major Sports, the parent company of sporting equipment manufacturer Tecnifibre.
Lacoste has bought 80% of the business for an undisclosed sum. The deal will take effect on 1 October.
Tecnifibre specialises in producing strings, racquets and accessories for sports as well as balls in partnership with Bridgestone.
Thierry Guibert, chief executive at Lacoste Holding, said: “This ambitious project will make it possible to make use of valuable synergies for both companies: the acceleration of international development for Tecnifibre and the development of technical products under the Lacoste brand.”
Tecnifibre, which mainly operates in France, is aiming to develop its business in Europe and the US.
Lacoste operates in 120 countries through a selective distribution network. It said it sells two items per second in the world.
Last year Lacoste posted turnover of more than €2bn (£1.8bn).
