Ladybird standalone stores fail to take off

Woolworths has halted plans to open a UK standalone store for its Ladybird kidswear brand this year after the sponsor of its franchise partner withdrew financial support.
Woolworths chief executive Trevor Bish-Jones said he would focus on overseas growth and said Ladybird was one of the firm’s “heroes” in the first quarter. Woolworths’ like-for-like sales for the 26 weeks to August 4 were up 0.6%, with losses before tax of £64.7m, against £73.6m the previous year.
