The click-and-collect shopping market is predicted grow to £9.8bn by 2023, and clothing and footwear commands the largest proportion of that spending.
Retail analyst GlobalData’s Click and Collect in the UK 2018-2023 report showed that fashion accounted for 59.9% of the market – and this is predicted to grow to 62.2% by 2023.
It is forecast that the click-and-collect market, currently worth £6.7bn, will account for 12.9% of all online spending by 2023.
For multichannel retailers, GlobalData suggested that click and collect is an increasingly important way to increase footfall to stores: 39.2% of the 10,000 customers surveyed purchased an additional item when collecting their last order.

However, the report found that home-delivery services are still favoured. Although 79.9% of click-and-collect users were satisfied with the service, home-delivery satisfaction rates stand at 89.5%.
Retail analyst for GlobalData Emily Salter said: “Next is one of the few multichannel retailers currently offering a click-and-collect proposition to rival the speed and cost of home delivery, through recently introducing free one-hour collection in selected stores.
“A number of factors will inhibit growth of the click-and-collect channel, including store closures. The growing number of retailers closing stores and implementing company voluntary arrangements will reduce the availability of collection points, increasing usage of alternative delivery options.”
