Fashion sales rise

Total like-for-like fashion sales rose by 5.9% in the week to 21 October, the BDO High Street Sales Tracker has shown.

The increase was from a negative base of -6.4%, and made it the third week out of the last five that total fashion sales have been positive.

In-store fashion like-for-like sales increased by 2.4%.

Total like-for-like sales were up by 3.3%.

Overall footfall saw a slight increase of 0.5%, with the high street and retail parks seeing increases of 1.4% and 1.2% respectively.

Only shopping centres saw a decline in footfall of 2%.

The BDO warned that this week’s unseasonably high temperatures could cause a repeat of last year’s negatively affected autumn fashion sales.
