Fashion's biggest brands of 2019

Off-White, Gucci and Balenciaga are the most sought-after brands in 2019 so far.

This is according to fashion search platform Lyst’s first-quarter index, which analyses the online shopping behaviour of its 5 million-plus shoppers each month.

In the first three months of 2019, these were the 20 most searched, browsed and purchased brands on Lyst:

  1. Off-White
  2. Gucci
  3. Balenciaga
  4. Valentino
  5. Fendi
  6. Prada
  7. Stone Island
  8. Versace
  9. Vetements
  10. Saint Laurent
  11. Nike
  12. Burberry
  13. Moncler
  14. Givenchy
  15. Dolce & Gabbana
  16. Yeezy
  17. Balmain
  18. Palm Angels
  19. Adidas
  20. Alexander McQueen

This is the first time that Lyst has expanded the list from 10 to 20 brands, following a “turbulent” first quarter for the fashion industry which showed lots of “volatility and change” it said.

Designer Virgil Abloh’s Off-White reclaimed the top spot as the “hottest” brand in fashion right now, after being overtaken by Gucci in the final quarter of 2018.

It was succeeded by several luxury household names, including nine Italian labels, such as Valentino, Fendi and Prada.

French designer Saint Laurent meanwhile jumped the most places – up 17 spots from the previous quarter to 10th place. Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino climbed six and five places respectively.

Outerwear specialist Moncler fell nine places – from fourth to 13 this quarter – which could be a result of warmer weather as summer approaches.

Trends-wise, small accessories are the ones to watch, as “Instagram-friendly” products proved to be particularly popular at the beginning of the year.

All but two of Lyst’s top 10 women’s products were footwear and accessories, and Alexander McQueen’s oversized-sole sneakers clinched the top spot (check out Drapers’ guide to the chunky sneaker trend here).

Prada’s stud-embellished headband was Lyst’s second “hottest” product this quarter (with a 300% increase in searches) followed in third place by the Jacquemus Le Chiquito bag, which boosted the brand’s social impressions by 1,831% over the period.

Determined by volume of social media mentions, searches, page views, interactions and sales, these are the top 10 women’s products of 2019 to date:

  1. Alexander McQueen oversized-sole sneakers
  2. Prada stud-embellished headband
  3. Jacquemus Le Chiquito bag
  4. Gucci logo belt
  5. Sandy Liang shearling jacket
  6. Fendi baguette bag
  7. Nike Pro hijab
  8. Gucci Ace sneakers
  9. Proenza Schouler tie-dye turtleneck
  10. Chloé Sawyer slides

For the first time ever, all of the top 10 men’s products were shoes – seven of which were Nike – as the sneaker market “continues to power exponential growth for both luxury and sportswear brands” Lyst reflected.

Nike’s placement follows a string of collaborations (including a tie-up with Supreme, the Nike LDV Waffle X Sacai, and Nike X Fear of God) and resulted in more than 7 million social mentions in the last three months.
