Construction at Westfield in Croydon is unlikely to start this year, despite promises work would start in September.
In January, council leader councillor Tony Newman revealed that he did not know when work on the £1.4bn development would start, the Sutton and Croydon Guardian has reported.
Westfield most recently announced that the project would begin in 2019 for an opening date in 2023. However, traders from the Whitgift Centre, the shopping development that will be demolished to make way for it, have not yet been told when they have to leave.
The Westfield and Hammerson development was approved by Croydon council’s planning committee in November 2017 and by mayor of London Sadiq Khan a few months later.
Westfield has been approached for comment.
