John Lewis fashion sales fall

Like-for-like fashion sales at John Lewis & Partners slipped 6.8% in the week to 8 December, due to the continued mild weather.

Womenswear was up 3.7% on the same week last year, driven by party season purchases.

Total sales at John Lewis for the week were down 5.1%, which the retailer attributed to a reduction in promotional activity compared to the same period last year.

Overall sales at the partnership, which also includes Waitrose, were down 3.8% from £303.2m to £291.5m.
