Mike Ashley snaps up former BHS store from Intu

Mike Ashley has bought the long leasehold of the former BHS store in Derby from shopping centre owner Intu.

The news comes days after Ashley vowed to close all of his stores located in Intu-owned shopping centres – including Sports Direct and USC – after failing to secure rent reductions for his House of Fraser stores.

Ashley has now bought the 53,000 sq ft site which consists of four levels and is located on the periphery of Intu Derby.

Intu also sold a 75,186 sq ft site at Brierly Hill in the West Midlands and York House, a 24,000 sq ft site adjacent to Intu Victoria Centre in Nottingham this week. The sale of the three properties reached a combined value of £25.2m.

Earlier this week the landlord failed to secure a buyout deal after months of negotiations.
