Own brand drives John Lewis fashion sales

Fashion sales at John Lewis & Partners for the week to 29 January jumped 5% compared with the same week last year, driven by a demand for own-brand fashion.

Sales of John Lewis womenswear brand Modern Rarity were up 52%, although total sales for the department store were down 3.5% on the same week last year.

Total sales for the John Lewis Partnership, which includes supermarket Waitrose & Partners, were up 0.1% to £198.58m.

John Lewis announced last week that it will close its Knight & Lee store in Southsea in July, putting 127 jobs at risk.
