Unexpected warm spell boosts John Lewis sales

Fashion sales at John Lewis & Partners were up a notable 23.3% year on year for the week to 5 March, boosted by the unseasonably warm weather across the UK.

New-season clothing sales were up 17% as customers refreshed their wardrobes.

However, these figures compare with a low base of sales in 2018 because of last year’s “Beast from the East” cold snap.

John Lewis total sales were up 11.4% compared with 2018, and growth was recorded across all categories.

Total sales for John Lewis Partnership, including Waitrose & Partners, grew by 4.5% to £207.16m.
