Warm weather boosts fashion sales

Total like-for-like fashion sales saw a marginal increase of 0.88% for the week to 24 February, new figures from the BDO have shown.

In-store like-for-like sales saw slightly larger growth of 1.27%, but from a dismal base of -4.4% last year.

However, this week marked the end of a six-week run of negative like-for-likes for in-store fashion.

Total like-for-like sales across all retail categories fell 1.04%, whilst footfall was up by 1.7% - the first uptick of the year.

Record February temperatures meant high streets saw a 4.1% increase in footfall, but retail parks suffered a 2% decline compared to the same week in 2018.
