London College of Fashion secures Sophie, Countess of Wessex, as patron

Sophie, Countess of Wessex is to be the London College of Fashion’s first-ever patron.

During her three year tenure as patron, the countess – who is wife of the Queen’s youngest son Prince Edward – will champion the college’s ethical commitments within its Better Lives initiative.

This includes seeking to improve wellbeing and build a sustainable future by using fashion to drive change.

Projects include the rehabilitation of female offenders through the prison service by teaching them skills that can be used in the fashion industry; awarding scholarships to talented fashion students; and running the Centre for Sustainable Fashion.

LCF professor Frances Corner said: “We are very proud to have The Countess of Wessex’s support and look forward to working with her.

“This is a very exciting time for the college and HRH’s patronage strengthens the innovative work that we do and the contribution we will continue to make to the future of the fashion industry.”
