Les 100 Ciels uses London as European springboard

Asian womenswear retailer Les 100 Ciels has launched its first UK store, which will act as a stepping stone to further European expansion.

The chain, which has eight stores across the Far East, opened the doors on a 772 sq ft store on St Christopher’s Place on October 5.

Megan Lewis, regional manager for the retailer, said this shop could be the first of many.

“As the UK is the central hub of Europe and London is one of the style capitals of the world we decided to launch here,” she said.

Although Lewis could not confirm how many stores Les 100 Ciels is looking to open or where, she added: “We are considering further expansion in the UK and around Europe but we are viewing this first store as the opening of the door for Europe.”

The retailer’s collection focuses on high quality yarns including cashmere and merino. Prices start at £59 for a woven top to £899 for a 100% cashmere coat.

Joanne Wilkes, head of in town retail for property firm F&C Reit Asset Management, said the shop has bought something “unique” and sits harmoniously alongside other stores in the area. “In a small estate like St Christopher’s Place it is key to make sure that retailers complement those around them,” she said.
