Liberty's head of fashion to join Avenue 32

Stephen Ayres has left his position as head of fashion for London department store Liberty after seven years to join premium etailer Avenue 32.

Ayres’ new position at Avenue 32 has yet to be confirmed, but it is thought he will take on the role of fashion and brand director when he joins in mid-September.

The role has been empty since Erin Mullaney left Avenue 32 in May to join Tom Ford as worldwide director of merchandising.

Ayres joined Liberty as buying manager for menswear in March 2008 and was promoted to head of fashion in September 2011.

He was senior buyer of men’s designer fashion at Selfridges for two years prior to working at Liberty.

Liberty said a replacement will be announced at the end of the month.

Avenue 32 was founded in London in 2011 and stocks brands including Alexander Wang and Jonathan Saunders.
