Women’s young fashion brand and retailer Lipsy has signed an exclusive franchise agreement in India, a deal which the company deems a “key milestone” in its international expansion.
Lipsy has signed a contract with Brand Marketing India (BMI) to market and distribute Lipsy branded products in the Asian country.
BMI, which is responsible for the Calvin Klein Jeans, Calvin Klein Underwearand French Connection businesses in India, intends to open over 50 Lipsy stores over the next five years.
Emma Dobson, head of international at Lipsy, said: “This is a key milestone in our international expansion and underscores the international appeal of our brand.”
BMI managing director Vijay Murjani said he was confident that Indian consumers will embrace the brand. “The combination of glamorous fashion, affordability and a great retail experience has ensured the brand has been an overwhelming success with both celebrities and young trendsetters across the UK,” said Murjani.
Lipsy, which was acquired by Next in 2008, opened its first overseas stores in Dubai earlier this year and has opened further franchise stores in the Middle East since.
