Liverpool One opens first phase

The first phase of the £1 billion Liverpool One retail development opened in the city today.

Retail units opening in the first phase are on Liverpool’s South John Street, anchored by Debenhams, and the western Side of Paradise Street anchored by John Lewis. These include Zara, Pull and Bear (its first UK store), Monsoon, Republic and All Saints. The grand opening of Liverpool One’s 1.4 million sq ft retail space will take place on September 30. New signings announced today include Adidas, Bank, Henleys and Cult Clothing.

Mark Preston, chief executive of Grosvenor Britain and Ireland said: “Today marks the start of making the city what it once was – one of the UK’s top five retail destinations. Liverpool One is reputed to be the largest project of its kind in Europe and in its scale, design and impact is leading the way in urban regeneration. Today we begin delivery of a development that we believe will make a lasting contribution to the future of this historic city.”
