London Fashion Week gets off to a "buzzing" start

London Fashion Week kicked off with a buzz today, as Antoni & Alison launched proceedings this morning.

The designer label, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this season, had a brass band playing as models decked out in an array of printed dresses took to the catwalk.

“Print certainly isn’t dead,” said Drapers junior fashion editor Graeme Moran.

“Antoni & Alison is leading spring 13 LFW with a collection of dresses splattered with paint brush strokes and trompe l’oeil prints of fabric, bows, buckles and gems, to the sounds of a brass marching band - what a way to kick off LFW.”

Moran added: “Everyone is in high spirits as always, and it’s buzzing here this morning.”

Fashionistas are already out in force. At the Antoni & Alison show Hilary Alexander and Colin McDowell were spotted sitting next to each other on the front row and the British Fashion Council’s Harold Tilman and Caroline Rush have been seen at Somerset House.

Day one of LFW will see further shows from Central Saint Martins graduate Corrie Nielsen, Australian label Sass & Bide and designer label PPQ.

LFW will run until September 18.
