“Spread the message of great British fashion around the world,” urged British Fashion Council chief executive Caroline Rush at the launch of London Fashion Week today.
The five-day event runs until 21 February at its new home of The Store Studios at 180 The Strand.
Roland Mouret is new to the schedule this season to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary, alongside Chalayan and Hill and Friends.
Versace’s Versus will show on Saturday evening and MM6 Maison Margiela will show on Sunday afternoon, followed by Burberry, which will present its womenswear and menswear collections together on Monday evening.
Simone Rocha, winner of British Womenswear Designer at The Fashion Awards 2016, will present her new collection on Saturday evening, while 2016 BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund winner Sophia Webster will host a presentation for her new collection on Monday afternoon.
This year’s shortlisted designers of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund are Huishan Zhang, Mother of Pearl, Osman, Palmer//Harding, Shrimps, Sophie Hulme and Toogood.
International Woolmark Prize winner Teatum Jones will open LFW with a catwalk show.
120 designers are showing at the Designer Showrooms, which at 28,960 sq ft takes up more space than ever before.
In a special tribute to designer Richard Nicoll, who died in October last year, the Arundel Street and main entrance to The Store Studios have been painted in Nicoll Blue, a new shade dedicated to him developed by a group of his close friends and the Pantone Colour Institute.
