London Fashion Week takes designers to New York

Designers including Peter Pilotto, Meadham Kirchhoff and Mark Fast will sell in New York next week as the British Fashion Council extends its London Show Rooms scheme.

For the first time, the London Show Rooms programme, which has initially helped fund designers to show at showrooms in Paris, will take emerging London Fashion Week designers to New York.

The scheme, which is a joint venture between the British Fashion Council and Centre for Fashion Enterprise, will provide subsidised showroom space at Penthouse Lofts, Soho Grand Hotel, for three days from March 23 to 25.

London Show Rooms has taken designers to Paris every season since September 2008. The scheme has been extended to New York this season to widen the exposure of the emerging British labels.

After seeing the set up in Paris, I am confident that the British designers can do a good job and build up brand awareness and sales in the US.
Having worked and lived in the US, the opportunities are there for creative british talents.
In addition to the quality of the collection, one should not forget the landed duty paid price list ( it should not take you more than a day to get it organised ), knowing how to ship and clear the goods on time ( I have not seen all buyers happy with delays in delivery. The designer taking up to a 20/40% discount for the buyer to take the goods is a heavy price to pay!). Obviously, make sure you find a secured way to get paid ( credit card?).

All the best and supporting British talents overseas.
